FAQ

Hair Transplant FAQ

Answers to the questions patients ask most often about hair transplants at Hair in Istanbul, including technique, pain, recovery, results, afro-textured hair and planning your visit to Istanbul.

Treatment

Which technique does Hair in Istanbul use?

We perform DHI hair transplants. Grafts are taken one by one from the donor area and implanted directly with an implanter pen, which gives precise control over the angle and direction of each hair. Your doctor confirms the most suitable plan after assessing your hair and donor area.

Is a hair transplant painful?

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia, so the treated areas are numb. Most patients feel pressure rather than pain during the procedure. Some tenderness in the donor and recipient areas is common for a few days afterwards and is usually managed with the medication your doctor recommends.

How long does the procedure take?

Most procedures take one day. The exact duration depends on the number of grafts and the areas being treated. Your coordinator will share the schedule for your treatment day in advance.

Am I a suitable candidate?

Suitability depends on your type and pattern of hair loss, the quality of your donor area, your general health and your expectations. Send us clear photos of your hair for a free online assessment, and a doctor will review them before any plan is confirmed.

Afro and textured hair

Can afro-textured hair be transplanted?

Yes. Afro-textured hair can be transplanted successfully, but the follicles are curved beneath the skin, so extraction needs a different approach and experience with curly follicular units. Read more on our afro hair transplant page.

Is there a risk of keloid scarring?

People with a personal or family history of keloid scars may have a higher risk. Please tell your doctor about any history of keloids or raised scars before treatment so this can be assessed carefully.

Results and recovery

When will I see results?

It is normal for transplanted hairs to shed in the first weeks. New growth usually starts after around three to four months, and the final result is typically visible between twelve and eighteen months after the procedure.

When can I return to work?

Many patients return to desk-based work within about a week, depending on how they feel and how visible the treated areas are. Your doctor will give you personal aftercare instructions, including when to resume exercise.

How do I wash my hair after the procedure?

You will receive written aftercare instructions, including how and when to wash your hair for the first time. Following these instructions carefully protects the new grafts during healing.

Planning your visit

How do I get a price?

The price depends on your individual plan, including the number of grafts needed. Our prices page explains what affects the cost, and you can request a free online assessment for a personal quote.

How long should I stay in Istanbul?

Most patients plan a stay of a few days so they can attend the consultation, the procedure and the follow-up check. Your coordinator will recommend travel dates based on your treatment plan.

Which languages does your team speak?

Our patient team communicates with international patients in English. Please tell us your preferred language when you contact us.
